How to close telnet terminal in Linux and Windows

Telnet is an application protocol used on the Internet or local area network to provide a bidirectional interactive text-oriented communication facility using a virtual terminal connection. When using telnet sometimes you get stuck on how to close telnet terminal because all the known ways and commands are not working and it happens and so many users get stuck on closing this terminal and give up after triying the known solution as:

  • quit
  • ctrl + c
  • :q
  • exit
  • ^]

The solution to this is really easy but sometimes people forget how, when it been a long time when they used telnet. So to close the terminal just click on ctrl + ] to open telnet command and type quit and you are free to go.

root@server:~# telnet website.com 80

GET /api/ HTTP/1.1
:q
^C
^]
exit
quit
